roommat'd

Life has changed somewhat dramatically ~ we got a new roommate.

Roy Isaac is 59, a veteran of two wars, a retired Sergeant, loud, large, garrulous, southerner. He's teaching me to play poker. He talks all the time ~ so far Duke, Link, and I know more about his personal history than each other's. So far it hasn't been a problem living with him. I guess I can roll with it. ~ actually I know I can roll with it.

Other news: although there has been no official word yet, Dr. Duplicity told Link (when he asked where Roy would work) that Duke is going to be fired and sent home. The question (actually there are many) is "when?" Also, I have some doubt about D.D.'s general honesty and motive in telling Link this.

I'm trying not to react ~ until I know for sure. But it seems plausible. He and I have had a confrontation or two. Nothing big ~ but occasionally each of us gets a bit self righteous. And he just generally annoys me. I don't like to talk to him or in his presence. And I'm tired of hearing his quick and vague judgements on everything (not to mention how I feel about cleaning up after him). Oh well. I can bear it.

I've caught a cold ~ a pretty bad one ~ which is probably on its way out. I hope I get better.

Duke and I went to Wolmi-Do with the two women that we met. The whole day was fun, until the end when, over drinks we discussed the Japanese and homosexuality.

That conversation pretty much ruined my whole day: "I understand [homosexuals], but I hate them." All for now.

I talked to [redacted] and [redacted] last night. I broke down and had to call them. It was great to hear their voices. But it made me miss them more.
