I got paid today! One million two hundred thousand won. Just what my contract says. Good thing, and about time.
Yesterday was relatively uneventful. Duke and Link went with Miss Beck all day (to Wolmi-Do and norre bangs etc.). I slept in, read a little. I went out to do a little shopping (I needed peanut-butter), but the object of my quest not present (or not to be found) I had to content myself with the purchase of Coke, O.J., tissues and beer. Not great shopping, not a complete failure.
Heon-seong and Hyun-ah came over in the evening (about 45 minutes before my roommates returned) and we sat around talking 'til eleven. Then they split. I talked with Link and Duke separately about how they were getting along: it's still tough for both of them -- each annoys the other. Oh well. We all crashed.
Today started off on what might be considered a sour note (though not for me, personally). Mr. Im came to visit. He wanted two things: to pay me and to learn a bit about epilepsy.
I don't think I have mentioned before, but Duke is epileptic. This has, without exception, freaked out the Koreans. Apparently they understand next to nothing about this affliction and next to none of what we have told them about it. We are told an epileptic cannot teach in Korea (by decree of the Ministry of Education). While we were trying to make Mr. Im understand a bit, Charlie Park called -- he wanted to get in on the action. He spoke with Duke and then afterwards he tried to get information out of me.
I don't like this and can only imagine Duke's feelings. Anyway, we succeeded (I think) in comforting and calming Mr. Im a little, and giving him some facts to work with. I think we'll hear more of this.
Today I went with Tony to Tong Inch'on where there're many shops and markets. Didn't buy anything, but got to walk around in public during the day. It was fun, if little else. I am determined to speak better Korean than these other Americans -- though I expect the process to be somewhat arduous. Anyway, I'm at work now. I've got one class from 9:10 - 10:40 then I'm off home.
I'm not sure why, but I have felt really dazed all day (could it have something to do with the 4 Butalbitol I took last night? hmm.). I've been sleepy and off balance -- all I'm comfortable doing is lying down.
I couldn't even try to meditate (so far; I intend to try again when I get home) today because the Lotus position was too painful to maintain. Alas. Oh well. I'm gonna smoke some and then get through my class. Later.
