whimsical wedding poem (1997)

She gave me a pen, when

we were lovers,

She gave me a pen, when

we were young,

She gave me a pen, before

there were others, our song

had yet to be sung.

She gave me a pen, before

all the fighting,

She gave me a pen, which

has tarried,

She gave me a pen, so there

i sat writing, while She ran

off and got married.

still here i sit, writing,

and who can say,

whether Her fate is better,

or mine, now

She has a family, and i,

today, have all the worlds

ink can design, yes, and

all the words ink can define.

(revision 2004)

now

She has a divorce decree, and

i have a law degree, a crippled heart,

a heartless mind, and,

yes, still, those narrow worlds ink

can define.

(cynic remix)

now

She has a divorce decree, and

i’ve an increasingly successful

divorce practice, with

a growing clientele of close friends.

(and my ink and my pen)
