I would write poems of praise also to two
friends – ladies – who are usually with you;
I would write of their eyes, their poise and gait,
whom I have seen communicate
with you in silence, by cast of eyes, by gesture,
by interruption of the breath and posture,
subtly, as Neptune would have me also do.
I would study and learn to praise these two –
an alternate way to learn about you, Only One! –
but I cannot make them out, for they walk next to the sun.
