Fed FOP cold call
Dear Norm,
A woman called me today. She said that she was trying
to raise money from good citizens who want to stand behind
federal police officers under Homeland Security.
When I told her that I was great and asked how was she,
she said nobody ever asks her that. Maybe because of the
delay in the computer dialer, I advised she not take it
personally. She read the pitch and I let her.
Donations for the federal police F.O.P. who are the front line
and critical corps of Homeland Security. Do I want to be safe?
Isn’t the F.O.P. the Fraternal Order of Police? I asked, and
she diverted lower down the script tree, ending
lamely, with the statement that more information would be
in the brochures that would be sent with the pledge kit,
if I, now, agreed to support our federal Homeland
Security troops. I said, as a taxpayer, who is concerned with
security, that I would be interested in learning more
about why this this critical core did not have sufficient
funds, but that, as an unemployed person, I, too,
had insufficient funds. I told her that if she would send
me the information, I would pledge some quantity as
soon as I secured income. But she thanked me by name,
and rang off. This is a little suspicious Norm. Why does the
federal F.O.P. know my name? Why does Homeland Security
need citizen donations in order to achieve their mission?
Yours,
Eponymous
