spider hole (buca di ragno) bouilliabaise

A-One an’ a-Two an’ a-

'Cause you'll be down in the gutter
You'll be bummin' for cigarettes
Bummin' for nylons In the American Zone
You'll be down in the hole
Yeah, down in the hole
No escape from trouble
Nowhere to go
rolling stones

i’m down in a hole
i’m down in a hole
i’m down in a deep dark hole
gillian welch

i gave her a push i gave her a shove
i pushed with all my might
i pushed with all my love
i threw my child into a bottomless pit
she was screaming as she fell but i never heard her hit.

i’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in and stops my mind from wandering

And bin Laden's on the run. I mean, he's — all I can say, he's certainly not leading any parades these days. And, you know, he's probably in a hole somewhere hiding from justice. We'll get him.
— shrub

and it feels like i’m being eaten
by a thousand hungry shivering furry holes
and i know that in the morning
i will wake up in the shivering cold.
the spider man is always hungry.

This young man demonstrates how VC used to crawl through the tunnels to a well camoflaged hole, then pop out when a fight began. (sic)

Trapdoor Spider Ctenizidae ummidia:

Trapdoor spiders dig a tunnel in the ground and seal it with a hinged lid. They wait patiently behind this trap door until they sense prey passing nearby. Then they rush out to capture the prey and drag it down into the tunnel.

Black Rugose Trapdoor Spider Idiosoma nigrum:

The Black Rugose Trapdoor Spider is well-adapted for life in semi-arid habitats. The burrows are deep enough (up to 32 cm) to ensure that air in the lower burrow remains humid and relatively cool in summer. The leaf and twig trip-lines radiating out from the burrow entrance serve as a sort of remote sensing device - movement of a trip-line alerts the spider waiting in the burrow entrance to the presence of prey. Rather than foraging only at the burrow mouth (as many other trapdoor spiders do), these spiders charge out from under their doors to grab prey animals out on the trip-lines-especially ants, but also beetles, cockroaches, millipedes and moths. This twig-line feeding strategy increases the spider's foraging area and its chances of catching food, especially when prey is scarce.

In general conversation about divination a circle would spontaneously be drawn on the ground to represent the spider hole, and a stick, a stone and scraps of leaf positioned to illustrate examples.

This is Army lingo from the Vietnam era. The Vietcong guerrillas dug "Cu Chi tunnels" often connected to what the G.I.'s called "spider holes" — space dug deep enough for the placement of a clay pot large enough to hold a crouching man, covered by a wooden plank and concealed with leaves. When an American patrol passed, the Vietcong would spring out, shooting. But the hole had its dangers; if the pot broke or cracked, the guerrilla could be attacked by poisonous spiders or snakes. Hence, "spider hole."
William Saffire

Shooting the spider hole when lit gives you a chance to play Spin the Spider in the backglass. The spider wheel has 14 awards and the aim is to stop the spider on the unlit awards.

To check alignment, I got a 6 foot long threaded 3/8" rod from the hardware store, and passed it through the spider hole, securing it on both sides with nuts, so that it was fixed along the axis of the secondary holder (which hopefully is the optical axis?).

The Spider Hole is an incredible band here in Mesa, Az.

He hears voice and sees small hole by side of small cornstalk. It is house of Spider Woman. He enters and she spins web across opening. Mána tracks him to edge of corn-field, but cannot find him. She takes mirror from bosom and sees opening of Spider's hole reflected. She tells youth to come out, and he does so very dejected. Mána goes to hide fourth time.

But she also gave the girl this warning: "whenever you make a blanket, you must leave a hole in the middle. For if you do not, your weaving thoughts will be trapped within the cotton -- not only will it bring you bad luck, but it will drive you mad." since then navajo women have always left a spider hole in the middle of their blankets.

Europe and Canada are much farther gone down the rat-hole to surrender, but the U.S. itself also teeters.... As I write, the anti-Bush demonstrations are cranking up in the London streets.... A little knowledge is a dangerous thing -- and those with little knowledge of how the world unfolds, demand that America and Britain give up defending themselves against the menace made visible in the morning of 9/11/01.
